This year’s luncheon got off to a stirring start with a quintet of Year 12 Camberwell High School boys playing popular tunes on their euphoniums, a tuba and drums. Over 60 ex-students travelled from near and far to share lunch, enjoy fellowship and listen to former student and guest speaker Emeritus Professor Kwong Lee Dow AO AM (Class of 1954). Kwong spoke about Camberwell High School and education – past, present and future. He discussed the establishment of the school, then looked at secondary school education today and concluded by talking about young people and their future, and the role of schools in anticipating priorities and uncertainties. As an educator, Kwong provided a unique perspective that was most interesting.
We were very pleased to have ex-students, Rory Hughes, Ashley Wah and Jess Garnham, and current student, Fiona Bonnet, with us. They have each received a Kwong Lee Dow Scholarship and were chosen not only because “there is a feeling that they will succeed and do well in the University, but they have qualities of leadership, engagement and involvement.”
